The PDS Mission: Producing the highest PET image quality at the lowest dose, for research and clinic use. Our special focus is on drug response trials and other longitudinal studies for neurology and oncology, which our technology makes possible because of reduced radiation exposure.
History: Founded at Boston University's Photonics Center in 1999, to bring to practical application the detector technology and software originally envisioned by Dr. William Worstell, our chief technical officer. Dr. Worstell has undergraduate and advanced degrees from Harvard University, where he studied with Nobel laureate Dr. Carlo Rubbia, specializing in detector development for high-energy experiments.
The 30-plus employees (below) of PhotoDetection Systems Inc. now work in a 20,000 square foot facility (ISO 13485-certified) at Boxboro, MA. There they assemble large PET systems (90cm bore diameter) for OEM manufacturers to mount with CT scanners. They also develop new imagers using the unique PDS wavelength-shifting technology.
